Word Hoard (Teacher’s Guide)

This Teacher’s Guide is designed to accompany the Word Hoard: The Rhetoric of Poetry curriculum.

Word Hoard teaches students to read, love, understand, and wield poetry as powerful communication. Poetry is not treated as a fragile museum piece, nor as a mere checklist of technical devices, but as elevated language ordered toward truth, goodness, beauty, to the glory of God. The course introduces students to the formal elements of poetry—rhythm, meter, rhyme, alliteration, assonance, poetic form, imagery, figures of speech, composition, and performance—so that they may become more skillful readers, writers, speakers, and word-wielders.

This Teacher’s Guide provides the practical tools needed to teach the course with confidence. It includes suggested schedules (including a full-year schedule and one-semester schedule), lesson answer keys, exams, and exam answer keys, along with guidance for using the accompanying anthology and bringing the course to completion through student composition and performance.
