What Christians Believe: A Walk Through The Apostles’ Creed

$11.99

A walk through the Apostles’ Creed.

“But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.” (Titus 2:1)

Setting forth the foundational truths of Christianity is what the Apostles’ Creed is all about. It is a distillation of what the Bible teaches about God and His dealings with His creation, including us. The creed is widely affirmed by Protestants, Roman Catholics, Anglicans, and the Orthodox churches as being an accurate summary of the Christian faith.

The purpose of this little book is to walk the reader through the creed’s statements and explain their meanings through the Bible passages from which they come. Though seasoned Christians may find it useful as a devotional guide, the book is mainly written for new Christians, those who are curious about the Christian faith, and parents for the instruction of their children.

At the end of the book is a catechism intended for use by families and schools.

APPENDIX
An Apostles’ Creed Catechism

Forty years ago, John Carnahan taught me the foundations of the faith. In What Christians Believe, we see a master teacher at his craft. This illuminating text, based on the most foundational creed in Christendom, brings the creed alive with Scripture that not only explains and supports, but also extends the meaning into full flourish. For teachers of all stripes—at church, in the home, or at school—this work will become a welcome and valued resource.

—David Goodwin, President, Association of Classical Christian Schools

One of the central glories of the Apostles’ Creed is the combination of brevity with profundity. While expansive theological works certainly have their place, there is also a place for work that is pointed, brief, succinct, clear, accessible, and true. This small commentary on the Apostles’ Creed fits that description admirably.

—Douglas Wilson, Pastor, Christ Church

The book you hold in your hand is an accessible commentary on the Apostles’ Creed. John Carnahan has supplied numerous biblical texts to illuminate the essential teachings of the creed. His work is an amplification of the creed itself, not adding or subtracting from it. And you will find it a faithful guide that builds out the truths that have upheld the Church over centuries.

– Jared Longshore, Associate Pastor, Christ Church
