Welcome to Old Western Culture! We’re excited to be part of your journey through the great books of Western civilization, whether you’re discovering these timeless works for the first time, revisiting old friends on a dusty shelf, or passing them on to the next generation.
If you chose the option to purchase physical DVDs, workbooks, or readers, those should ship to you within a day or two of your purchase. However, all the materials are immediately available to you online after checkout. All of your purchased materials will be available under the “My Courses” and “Materials” tabs when you log in from the homepage.
The first step is to head over the material page where you can download your student workbook for each unit. In the front pages of each workbook, you will find the recommended nine-week schedule for that unit. Taking a look at the schedule, you’ll notice that there are four elements of coursework that you will encounter in each unit: video lessons (DVD or streaming), study questions (PDF or physical workbook), reading assignments (Roman Roads Readers or your own copies of the works), and a writing assignment (more info in workbook).
A quick note about the reading assignments. You have three options for the books:
- Use your own copies (workbook references are by line number, so any translation will work!)
- Purchase Roman Roads Readers for each unit (which contain the exact reading assignments in one volume–especially convenient for units like Greeks: Drama and Lyric or Romans: Early Christianity that cover multiple smalls works from different authors.)
- Use e-texts, available on the materials page. (Great for travel, leaves something to be desired aesthetically.)
